Fisherman slapped with murder charge

A fisherman appeared on Wednesday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for the capital offence of murder.
James Fraser, also known as “Damo” of Garnett Street, Georgetown, is accused of killing Ceon Rodney, called George, on April 25, 2019 at Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown.
The father of two was not required to plead to the charge.
The 21-year-old man was represented by Attorney-at-Law George Thomas, who told the court his client did not shoot Rodney and he was not in possession of a gun. He further stated that his client ran in a northerly direction when he heard the gunshots and rendered assistance to the injured man, taking him to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he gave Police Officers a statement.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court on April 25 about 09:00h the now deceased man and another man had a misunderstanding. As Rodney was walking along Norton Street, on the northern side of the road, he was confronted by Fraser, along with two other men, who exited a tinted white motor vehicle and an argument ensued.
The three men then pulled out their weapons and fired several rounds at Rodney, which hit his left foot. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The accused was remanded and the case was scheduled to continue on May 21, 2019.
